The Properties of Copper
Copper is a naturally occurring mineral and has been used to make tools, appliances, and jewelry from some 4,000 years ago, or during the Bronze Age. At the present, copper is utilized to transfer electricity and various types of electrical equipment. This is due of the fact that copper is the second most conductive metal after silver and it is also much cheaper. In addition, it can help reduce the amount of power lost in the form of heat as electricity flows through the wires. And helps prevent the risk of burns to the wires as well.
Besides the electrical equipment industry relies heavily on copper. As well as copper is also uses in the following industries:
- Jewelry industry
- Automotive industry
- Furniture and appliance industry
- Refrigeration industry
- Packaging industry

Another advantage of copper is its ability to resist corrosion even in severe corrosive conditions such as seawater. Once in the 16th century, the wreck of a sunken ship for years was salvaged. But the ship's copper pulley was in good condition and can be used normally. Afterward, it was known that copper is extremely corrosion resistant. Another feature of copper is that it is poisonous to small organism. As a result, copper is commonly used as a sheath to cover shipbuilding slats from barnacles or insects eroding or damaging the wood. It’s also utilized in the construction of drinking water pipelines to kill germs and fungi in the water source.
If you're wondering if copper is poisonous to small organisms, will it be detrimental to the human body if it is used to manufacture drinking water pipes? The answer is absolutely harmless because the amount of copper in drinking water is relatively little. Therefore, it is incapable of causing harm to our bodies. Furthermore, our bodies have a natural system for excreting copper. So long as you don't get too much copper, you should be fine.
