Copper is a naturally occurring. There is a chemical symbol Cu, which comes from the Latin word Cuprum, meaning metal of the island of Cyprus. Copper has been mined on the island of Cyprus for thousands of years. It is estimated that the oldest mine in the world is the Skouriotissa Copper Mine, located on the island of Cyprus. It was founded in 1914 by the Cyprus Mines Corporation, but during World War II (1939-1945) copper mining was suspended, and in 1974 a coup d'état took place. This causing the business to shut down and be sold to Hellenic Copper Mines. Copper has long been a popular metal, and it continues to be so today. Particularly in industries such as the electrical industry, construction industry, automotive industry and parts, as well as industrial machinery.

There are 3 sorts of copper:
1. Copper in its purest form. It has a copper content of 99%
2. Sulfide ores are formed when copper and sulfur are combined. It becomes copper sulfide. Some minerals may contain other elements such as tin or iron. Copper ores in the form of sulfides are important, such as Chalcopyrite, Covellite, Enargite, Tetrahedrite and Bornite, etc. These minerals contain 40-80% copper.
3. Oxide ores are formed when copper reacts with oxygen. It will become oxide. These minerals are Cuprite, Tenorite, Azurite and Brochantite, etc., which contain 45-89% of copper.

Copper ore may be found all over Thailand, mostly in the Central, Northern, and Northeastern regions. However, the country has no copper mines. Thailand must import finished copper goods because the amount of copper found is too tiny to mine efficiently and cost-effectively. “ขยะอิเล็กทรอนิกส์” ภาระสิ่งแวดล้อมแก้ได้ แค่รีไซเคิลอย่างถูกวิธี

พฤติกรรมของผู้บริโภคที่เปลี่ยนไปส่งผลให้ในปัจจุบันทั่วโลกมีปริมาณขยะอิเล็กทรอนิกส์สูงถึง 53.6 – 54 ล้านตันต่อปี และมีแนวโน้มเพิ่มขึ้นอีกเรื่อย ๆ แต่มีขยะอิเล็กทรอนิกส์เพียง 18 % เท่านั้นที่ได้รับการจัดการอย่างถูกต้อง

กรมควบคุมมลพิษห้ามซื้อ-ขาย ทองแดงเผา

กรมควบคุมมลพิษ มีข้อห้ามไม่ให้เผาสายไฟเพื่อคัดแยกทองแดงในที่โล่ง และห้ามรับซื้อหรือขายทองแดงเผาเด็ดขาด โดยทางกรมได้แนะนำให้ผู้ประกอบกิจการใช้เครื่องจักรรีไซเคิลในการบดย่อยสายไฟ คัดแยกทองแดงแทน เพื่อป้องกันไม่ให้เกิดผลกระทบต่อชุมชนและสิ่งแวดล้อม
